Opening a New School Year: Early Education Distance Learning in California Schools

Sep 22, 2020

Building on initial recommendations for home learning materials, technology access, and parent (or caregiver) support, the Center for District Innovation And Leadership for Early Education has produced a second report that provides suggestions for opening the new school year in the distance learning context. The focus is on social-emotional development through building relationships, creating home learning environments, and creating a daily routine for young children.

Three types of relationships are addressed: teacher and family, teacher and student, and student to student. The relationship with the family is centered around providing flexible and individual support to work in partnership to in turn support their child(ren). Suggestions and examples for creating daily routines and home learning environment as well as sample schedule for the first three weeks of school are provided.
