Transitional Kindergarten in California: Early Growth and Uneven District Capacity
The Transitional Kindergarten in California: Early Growth and Uneven Capacity report is a collaboration with Abigail Slovick, Chunhan Huang and Bruce Fuller from University of California, and Carla Bryant from the Center for District Innovation and Leadership in Early Education. The report analyzes Transitional Kindergarten (TK) enrollment patterns since its inception to help guide the expansion of TK over the next three years. The DIAL EE and Berkeley researchers ask which children are being served by TK, which districts have displayed more or less capacity to expand TK access since 2013, and what are the implications of uneven growth and enrollment. This analysis uncovers the challenges of supporting universal access to quality early learning in a state as large and diverse as California.
